There are a number of smart phone apps that can be very useful in helping to teach relaxation strategies. The benefits are that these APPS can be used anytime to help reduce tension and anxiety, and assist in providing relaxation.
There are several apps that I recommend for clients to use at home. Most are freely available for download through iTunes (for Apple devices) or through the Google Play store (for Samsung (Android) devices).
Breathe2Relax is a great and free app that teaches deep breathing strategies. Deep (abdominal) breathing can be very useful for reducing general tension, helping you calm down during an attack of anxiety, or for helping you achieve a relaxed state to assist with sleep. By practicing deep breathing everyday you can lower your overall level of stress and tension.

Andrew Johnson is a Clinical Hypnotherapist who teaches relaxation and meditation. He has a number of apps to assist with relaxation. I recommend ‘Deep Sleep’ with Andrew Johnson’ to clients who are having difficulty getting to sleep at night. It can be useful for relaxing the body and mind so that sleep can be more easily achieved.
Andrew Johnson’s apps can be downloaded through iTunes and Google Play app stores for a small fee.

Relax Melodies is an app that allows you to mix your own sounds to create a personalised relaxation sound track. There are over 108 sounds to choose from. For example, you might enjoy nature sounds and choose to combine waterfall sounds, wind chimes, and rain… or you might prefer to fall asleep to background noises like traffic or the quiet hum of a fan.
